"Spinozists don't have no songs"

Af en toe breng ik een bezoekje aan het weblog van Charlie Huenemann. Het was weer een poosje geleden. Nu zag ik bij hem (hij was ook weer door een ander getipt) dit grappige optreden op het “Merlefest 2010” in St. Louis van de comedian Steve Martin en de Steep Canyon Rangers. Zij brachten er de ‘Atheist Song’ "Atheists Don't Have No Songs." Daarna zag ik hoeveel opnamen daarvan uit verschillende hoeken en tijdens verschillende optredens gemaakt zijn en op YouTube geplaats. Na wat doorzoeken kwam ik een transcriptie van de song tegen wat het toch makkelijk maakt alles te verstaan. Ik stel voor om eerst “Lees verder...” aan te klikken en dan pas de video te starten.

Atheist songs add up to nada,
But they do have Sundays free.

Pentecostalists sing they sing to heaven,
Coptics have the book of scrolls,
Numerologists can count to seven,
Atheists have rock and roll.

For Atheists,
